What are e-liquids?
E-liquids, also known as vape juice or e-juice, are the fluids utilised in vaporisers and electronic cigarettes to create vapour. These liquids typically provide nicotine and flavour to the user when heated by the vape device.
What are shortfill e-liquids?
Shortfill e-liquids are larger sizes of e-liquid that contains zero nicotine and leave enough space inside the bottle to add nicotine shots into the bottle directly.
In the UK, the maximum bottle size allowed is 10ml if the e-liquid contains nicotine. However, shortfill e-liquids do not contain nicotine and can therefore be sold in larger bottles than 10ml.
Users can then purchase separate 10ml bottles of pure nicotine, called nic shots or nicotine shots, which can then be added directly into the shortfill bottle for those who prefer to vape with nicotine.
These vape liquids are called shortfills because the bottles they use leave extra space to add nic shots directly into the bottle. For example, typically a 100ml e-liquid shortfill uses a 120ml bottle and a 50ml uses a 60ml bottle size.
Which e-liquids are best for vape tricks?
Shortfill e-liquids are ideal for vape tricks! They often feature thicker consistencies of e-liquid due to their 70/30 or 80/20 ratios of VG/PG, which means they can produce much thicker vape clouds when used with high wattage devices and sub ohm coils.
These liquids will likely be too thick to work in smaller devices like vape pens and pods, and require high power devices with low resistance coils. Make sure that your device is capable of vaping with thicker liquids or you may damage the coil and device.
What ingredients are in e-liquid?
E-liquids comprise mainly vegetable glycerine (VG), propylene glycol (PG), nicotine, and flavourings. The VG and PG act as bases that carry the nicotine and flavourings and produce vapour when heated.

What does VG/PG mean in vape liquids?
VG/PG refers to the ratio of vegetable glycerine to propylene glycol in e-liquids. This ratio can affect the viscosity of the liquid, the volume of the vapour clouds produced, the intensity of the throat hit, and how well the liquid carries flavour.

However, the ideal ratio might vary depending on personal preference and the specifications of the vape pen.

How long does shortfill e-liquid last?
Typically, e-liquid has a shelf life of between 1 and 2 years, but this depends on the make, manufacturer and storage conditions. There are several ways to determine if your vape juice is out of date. Firstly, if the liquid has a strange smell, it’s probably not in its best condition and you might want to dispose of it.
If the liquid has separated, this can also be a sign that it’s an old e-liquid. All-natural products will separate over time, as the heavier elements sink to the bottom, so it’s not a clear sign the liquid is out of date.
You should always be able to find the best before date printed onto the bottle. However, if you can’t find it or it is unclear, you can contact the manufacturer with the batch code (which will also be on the bottle or packaging) and they will be able to provide the best before date for you.
