What are vape mod kits?

What else will I need for my vape mod?

There are a few things you’ll need if you’re using a vape mod for vaping. Some mods are all-in-one devices that come with compatible hardware and accessories ready to go. Many, however, will only include the mod itself, and you’ll need to get the other hardware separately.

Here’s a list of vape hardware you’ll need to get started with your mod:

  • Vape Tank – Just as important as a good mod, a good vape tank is essential for a smooth vaping experience. Available in a range of different sizes, these are the containers that hold the e-liquid and contain the coil or atomizer used to heat the liquid into a vapour. RDA mods do not have a tank, instead the user drips e-liquid directly onto the cotton and coil, so no tank is needed. Check the manufacturer’s guide to find out which tanks are compatible with your mod device.
  • Vape Coils – A core part of any vape device, often called an atomizer. These are directly responsible for heating the e-liquid into vapor, so they make a massive difference to your vaping experience. There are different types of coils, including mesh coils which have increased surface area for better heating.
  • Rechargeable Batteries – 18650 rechargeable batteries are used in many high-powered mods. It’s a good idea to get a few spare batteries too. This way, you’ll always have fully charged batteries ready to go whilst your spares are recharging.
  • External Battery Charger – Get a single, dual or quad bay external charger to keep your 18650 batteries charged and ready to use. Though you can charge batteries when they’re in the device, this is not recommended as it can reduce battery life when compared to charging them externally. What’s more, you can keep using your device whilst your spare batteries are charging in the background, so you’re always ready to vape.
  • Cotton/Wick – Cotton surrounds the coil and is what absorbs the e-liquid from the tank and transfers it to the coil for heating. Fresh cotton makes sure your vapour tastes amazing with every hit. Any experienced vaper will recognise the familiar burning taste of old vape cotton, so if you create your own DIY vape set up for an RDA or RTA mod, vape cotton is essential. What are RDA, RTA and RDTA mods?

There are different types of vape mods, including RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer), RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) and RDTA (rebuildable dripping tank atomizer). Each has unique benefits which we’ll cover below.

RDA Mods

RDA mods provide a customisable deck which allow the user to create their own coil set ups. RDAs have no tank or reservoir, instead the user drips e-liquid directly onto the coil and cotton. This allows for greater control and are often used for vape tricks as they produce incredible, dense vapour clouds.

RTA Mods

RTA mods are similar to RDAs but rather than manually dripping the e-liquid, they have a tank and chimney system instead. The user still builds their own coil and cotton set up, but has more convenience with a tank. These are also great for blowing dense vapour clouds.

RDTA Mods

RDTA mods are a combination of the RDAs and RTAs. They have a rebuildable deck to make your own coils, but also feature a tank beneath the deck that feeds liquid to the atomizer. The tank essentially acts as a deep reservoir for e-liquid, making them more convenient than other options.
